In this tutorial I will show you how to make my very glossy error message icon using Adobe Photoshop.
See what we will be making just below.
photoshop tutorial error icon
First we need to make the outer border of the ellipse shape, so with the ellipse tool drag out a circle (the color doesn''t matter we will change it later).
In the layers panel double click the new shape layer to get to the layers styles panel and give it settings as shown below.

And here is the metallic gradient I made..
photoshop tutorial error icon
Now your ellipse should look something like this.
photoshop tutorial error icon
Now that was the first part, easy right? the next stage is to make the inner ellipse, (the red shape), so with the ellipse tool drag out a new shape, a bit smaller, so it looks like the one below.
photoshop tutorial error icon
Again go to the layers styles panel and give this shape the following style settings.

photoshop tutorial error icon
And now the result should look like this.
photoshop tutorial error icon
Yes I know this is a lot of settings for such a little effect, but I promise its worth it..
Now lets make the X in the middle, you can use the custom shape tool to make one, or the text tool and use a custom font the make a cool variation, bit I didn''t, I quite liked the standard X with crisp corners.

Now yet again go to the layers styles panel and give it the following settings.

Now we are almost done, we only need the final touch, but its one of the most important things, the glossy effect.
We will be making this 3 times, using the same technique on 3 different places, so I will only show it once.
Hold down ctrl and click the outer ellipse shape layer to load the shapes selection.
Choose the elliptical selection tool, set the selection mode to subtract from selection, and drag over the selection as shown below.
photoshop tutorial error icon
Finally we will make a gradient going from white to transparent and drag it in the selection to make the glossy effect.

photoshop tutorial error icon
Now as I wrote before, you will need to repeat this last step two more times to accomplish the full effect as I did.
That''s it for now, I hope you enjoyed it.

Christmas Balls
In this photoshop tutorial we will learn how to design Christmas balls wallpaper.
Create a new file (File>New) of 1280x1024 px and 72 dpi.
Using the Rectangle Tool (U), try to represent the background of the picture to be.

Set the next indicated parameters for on the last made layer by making a mouse click on the layer on the layers’ palette. Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Next represent a kind of plane on the bottom part of the picture, applying the same tool.

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Inner Glow

Using the Pen Tool (P)

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Stroke

Gradient’s parameters:

Represent one more ribbon, applying the previous tools (Pen Tool (P) and the Convert Point Tool).

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Stroke

Applying the Ellipse Tool (U)

Use the ellipse tool to draw ovals and circles. To draw a circle, hold down the Shift key while dragging. Double-click the ellipse tool to open the Color inspector.'); return false">Ellipse Tool (U), it’s possible to represent the primary layer belonging to a fir tree ball.

The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Inner Shadow

Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Using the same instrument, represent the next layer belonging to the same ball, the layer having the color #4472FC

Represent the next layer of the fir tree toy. For the beginning select the Ellipse Tool (U)

Double-click the ellipse tool to open the Color inspector.'); return false">Ellipse Tool (U) and then the Convert Point Tool that will be helpful in changing the element’s tops. The layer has the color #092894

Applying the described above method, try to represent the next layer belonging to the same toy.

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Inner Shadow

Next represent the top part of the ball, applying the Rectangle Tool (U) and the color #08258D

Select again the Pen Tool (P) to draw the top part of the fir tree ball. Its shape may be corrected with the Convert Point Tool.

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Drop Shadow

Next select the Ellipse Tool (U) and the Convert Point Tool to represent the wire ring on the ball, reserved for the thread. This new made layer must be situated under the previous layer on the layers’ panel.

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Drop Shadow

Blending Options>Stroke

Gradient’s parameters:

Combine in a group all the layers composing the fir tree’s ball (press Ctrl button to mark out the necessary layers and then hold on the left mouse’s button while taking the marked layers on Create a new group selection). Make two copies of the represented group and then select Free Transform option to change the copies’ sizes, placing them under the layers belonging to the blue ball. Change the parameters for the copied layers to get a red and green nuance for the copies.
The parameters for the red ball
The primary layer: Blending Options>Inner Shadow

Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:
The next layer has the color #DA1818

Next layer has the color #AF0102

Next we have to change the top part of the ball: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Inner Shadow

Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

This is the color of the lateral shadow - #AE0001

The color of the top part of the ball’s attachments is #AC0500

Next we’ll change the parameters for the green ball
The primary layer: Blending Options>Inner Shadow

Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

The next layer has the color #2CAB02

Next layer has the color #1B6802

The parameters for the top part: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Inner Shadow

Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

The color of the upper shadow on the right top is #124B00

Make a copy of each ball’s group. Mark out the copy and press Ctrl+E. Do this operation with each copy. The copies may be turned over with the Free Transform selection, changing the sizes, as it is represented on the next picture. This way we’ll get a reflection.

Mark out the layer containing the reflection and make a mouse click on the bottom part of the layers’ palette on Add a Mask selection. Choosing the Gradient Tool (G)

The color is white.

Apply the same parameters for the layers containing the white shadows. Fill 20%

Create a new layer on which we must insert several white dots of different sizes, placed around the ribbons. In this case we have to choose the Brush Tool (B)
